Pune | May 3, 2025 — The much-anticipated Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro line, managed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), is set to begin trial runs on an 11-kilometre stretch by September 2025, according to project officials.
Although the metro line was initially slated for completion by March 2025, delays in land acquisition, permit clearances, and tender processing led to a revised timeline. However, a push from authorities warning of penalties has prompted accelerated work by the contractor.
Developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, the metro will eventually operate from Hinjewadi to the District Court in a single phase. At present, trial operations are ongoing at the Maan Depot track, where systems are being tested.

“Station infrastructure is nearing completion. Trial runs will move to the mainline in a few months. We expect to launch full passenger services by March 2026,” said Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA, in an interview to Hindustan Times.
The Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar route is a key corridor intended to ease daily traffic congestion and improve urban connectivity between Pune’s IT hub and the central business district.
