Dial 112 Misused: Pune Resident Booked For Fake Gunfire And Assault Complaint
Pune, June 22, 2026: Kondhwa Police have registered a case against a 36-year-old man for allegedly making a false emergency call claiming that gunshots were being fired and that he was being assaulted, prompting a swift police response.
According to police, a call was received on the Dial 112 emergency helpline at around 4:30 pm on June 16. The caller informed the Police Control Room that he was being assaulted near Pargae Lawns and that unidentified persons were firing gunshots in a nearby field. He sought immediate police assistance.
Taking the matter seriously, a team from Kondhwa Police Station rushed to the location and conducted a thorough inquiry. However, officers found no evidence of any assault or firing incident. Local residents in the area also confirmed that no such event had taken place.
Further investigation revealed that the caller’s mother and his maternal cousin were involved in a dispute over jointly owned property. Police said the caller allegedly made the false complaint due to this ongoing family dispute, thereby misleading law enforcement authorities and misusing government-provided emergency services.
When police sought details about his identity, the caller reportedly gave evasive responses. He was later identified as **Ashish Dnyaneshwar Jadhav (36), a resident of Navi Khadki Gaothan near Jawalkar Mill in Yerawada, Pune.**
Based on the findings, Kondhwa Police registered a case against Jadhav under Crime Register No. 467/2026 under Sections 248 and 217 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The action was carried out under the guidance of senior Pune Police officials, with the investigation conducted by the Kondhwa Police Station detection team led by Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Gavade and other officers.
