Maharashtra, May 11, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a significant rise in temperatures across Maharashtra on May 12, with heatwave-like conditions expected to intensify in several regions of the state. A yellow alert has been issued for six districts — Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Jalna — due to soaring daytime temperatures.

According to weather officials, maximum temperatures in these districts are likely to remain above normal, prompting authorities to advise residents to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours unless necessary.

Konkan Region To Witness Hot And Humid Weather

In the Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, weather conditions are expected to remain hot and humid throughout the day. Minimum temperatures may hover between 25°C and 27°C, while maximum temperatures are likely to range from 32°C to 35°C.

The IMD has warned that high humidity levels in coastal areas could make conditions more uncomfortable, increasing the intensity of heat stress.

Western Maharashtra To Continue Experiencing Intense Heat

Districts in western Maharashtra such as Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur are also expected to witness strong heat conditions. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain between 22°C and 25°C, while maximum temperatures may rise to 36°C–39°C.

Hot winds are expected during afternoon hours, and citizens have been advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

Yellow Alert For North Maharashtra Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik districts in north Maharashtra. Temperatures in these areas are likely to increase further, with maximum temperatures expected to touch 40°C to 43°C.

Minimum temperatures may remain between 24°C and 27°C. Residents have been urged to avoid outdoor activities during the afternoon and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Marathwada Region Also Under Heat Stress

In the Marathwada region, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts are under yellow alert due to rising temperatures. Other districts including Beed, Latur, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Nanded, and Hingoli are not currently under any alert.

The region is expected to record minimum temperatures between 24°C and 26°C, while daytime temperatures could climb up to 41°C in some areas.

Vidarbha To Experience Dry And Hot Conditions

Vidarbha districts including Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli are likely to experience dry and extremely hot weather conditions.

Maximum temperatures in the region may range between 39°C and 42°C, while minimum temperatures could stay between 25°C and 28°C.

Authorities Advise Citizens To Take Precautions

The weather department has forecast mainly clear skies across most parts of Maharashtra, which could further increase daytime heat. Experts have advised children, senior citizens, and people working outdoors, especially farmers and labourers, to take extra precautions.

Citizens are advised to wear light clothing, cover their heads while stepping out, drink sufficient water, and avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours to prevent heat exhaustion and dehydration.
