30-metre-wide road project aims to improve connectivity between two rapidly growing suburbs amid rising congestion complaints.

In a major move to tackle traffic congestion in Pune’s western suburbs, the district administration has started the land acquisition process for a proposed Development Plan (DP) road connecting Wakad bridge to Balewadi.

The project involves the construction of a 30-metre-wide road under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning framework. According to a public notice issued under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, several land parcels and structures in Balewadi village of Haveli taluka will be acquired for the project.

Officials said the acquisition will include land, buildings, trees, and other attached properties required for the road development. The proposed road is expected to become an important route connecting Wakad and Balewadi, areas that have witnessed rapid urban growth and increasing traffic pressure in recent years.

The administration has identified multiple survey numbers falling within the acquisition zone. Affected landowners, occupants, and stakeholders have been asked to appear before the Special Land Acquisition Officer at the Pune Municipal Corporation regional office on Tilak Road on May 18, 2026, at 3.30 pm.

Citizens have also been directed to submit documents related to ownership rights, compensation claims, and objections regarding land measurements and acquisition proceedings.

The notification reflects the administration’s push to speed up pending infrastructure projects as Pune continues to face growing criticism over worsening traffic congestion, bottleneck junctions, and delayed road development in rapidly expanding residential areas like Wakad and Balewadi.
