Initial launch to cover 12 stations from Maan to Balewadi; remaining Shivajinagar stretch expected to open by October.

The much-awaited Pune Metro route connecting Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar is likely to begin its first phase of operations by the end of June, officials said. The launch, however, will depend on the completion of final safety inspections and approvals from concerned authorities.

According to officials, the first operational phase will include 12 stations between Maan and Balewadi on the Hinjewadi side. The partial opening is expected to provide significant relief to daily commuters travelling through these busy areas, especially IT professionals working in the Hinjewadi belt.

Authorities confirmed that trial runs across the entire Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar corridor have already been successfully completed, marking a major milestone towards making the Metro line operational.

While the initial section is nearing readiness, construction work is still underway at the remaining 11 stations closer to Shivajinagar. Officials stated that these stations are expected to be completed by October. Some delays have reportedly occurred due to technical challenges in certain stretches of the project.

The first phase is expected to improve connectivity for commuters in areas such as Balewadi and nearby suburbs, where traffic congestion has remained a major concern. However, officials and commuters alike acknowledged that the full benefit of the Metro corridor will only be realised once the entire Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar stretch becomes operational.

Many commuters welcomed the possibility of an early launch but said the long-term impact would depend on seamless connectivity across the full route. IT employees and regular travellers noted that direct Metro access to Shivajinagar would significantly reduce travel time and ease road congestion on one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
