Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 21: Rain, Thunderstorms and Severe Heatwave to Hit State Simultaneously; 8 Districts on Alert
Maharashtra is set to witness contrasting weather conditions on May 21, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing rain alerts for several districts while warning of severe heatwave conditions in parts of Vidarbha.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in Sindhudurg and Kolhapur districts, while red and orange alerts have been sounded for extreme heat across multiple Vidarbha districts.

Red Alert For Severe Heatwave In Vidarbha
According to the weather department, Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts are likely to experience intense heatwave conditions, prompting a red alert in these regions. Temperatures are expected to cross 46 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Meanwhile, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts have been placed under an orange alert due to the possibility of severe heat conditions. Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
Rain Likely In Konkan Region
The Konkan belt, including Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by cloudy skies. Humid weather conditions are also likely to increase discomfort levels in coastal areas.
Maximum temperatures in these districts are expected to remain between 32 and 34 degrees Celsius.
Pune, Satara And Kolhapur May Receive Thunder Showers
In western Maharashtra, districts including Pune, Satara and Kolhapur are likely to witness a change in weather conditions after afternoon hours. The IMD has predicted light rain accompanied by thunder and gusty winds in isolated areas.
Kolhapur has been issued a yellow alert for rainfall activity, while Pune is likely to record maximum temperatures around 38 degrees Celsius.
Cloudy Conditions In North Maharashtra
Nashik and Ahilyanagar districts are expected to continue experiencing hot weather conditions, though some areas may witness cloudy skies and isolated light showers. Day temperatures in the region are likely to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius.
Marathwada To Remain Hot And Dry
Latur and Dharashiv districts in the Marathwada region are expected to witness hot and dry weather conditions. However, isolated areas may receive brief evening showers accompanied by gusty winds. Temperatures in these districts may touch around 40 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has urged citizens, especially in heatwave-affected districts, to take precautions, avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours and consume adequate fluids to prevent heat-related illnesses.
