Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 24: IMD Issues Rain Warning for 6 Districts
Maharashtra: Major weather changes are being witnessed across Maharashtra as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts for different regions of the state. While six districts in Konkan and Western Maharashtra have been placed under a yellow alert for rainfall and thunderstorms, several districts in Vidarbha continue to battle severe heatwave conditions.
The weather department has issued a red alert for extreme heat in three Vidarbha districts, an orange alert in three others, and a yellow alert in another three districts.
Rain Alert for Konkan Region
According to the IMD forecast, light to moderate rainfall is likely in the Konkan region over the next 24 hours. Districts including Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are expected to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning activity.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during sudden weather changes and avoid venturing into open areas during thunderstorms.
Yellow Alert Issued in Pune, Kolhapur and Satara
In Western Maharashtra, changing weather conditions are expected to bring rainfall activity on Sunday. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune, Kolhapur and Satara districts.
Some areas may witness intense showers accompanied by thunder and gusty winds. Farmers have been urged to take precautions while carrying out agricultural activities.
Severe Heatwave Conditions Continue in Vidarbha
Even as parts of Maharashtra prepare for rainfall, Vidarbha continues to experience intense heatwave conditions.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts, warning of a sharp rise in temperatures and increased risk of heatstroke during afternoon hours.
Citizens have been advised to avoid stepping outdoors unless absolutely necessary and to remain hydrated.
Orange and Yellow Heat Alerts in Other Districts
An orange alert has been issued for Chandrapur, Nagpur and Yavatmal districts, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal. Hot and dry winds are also likely to prevail.
Meanwhile, Bhandara, Gadchiroli and Gondia have been placed under a yellow heat alert, with officials warning that high temperatures may continue for the next few days.
Rain Likely in Several Other Districts
Although no official alert has been issued for districts such as Thane, Mumbai, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Sangli, Solapur, Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv, the IMD has predicted the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in isolated areas.
The changing weather conditions across Maharashtra have prompted authorities to urge both citizens and farmers to closely monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions.
