Maharashtra Weather Alert: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for 16 Districts, Heavy Rain Likely Over Next 24 Hours
Maharashtra, July 19, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for 16 districts across Maharashtra, forecasting increased rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next 24 hours as the southwest monsoon regains strength.
The revival in monsoon activity is being attributed to a low-pressure system over eastern India, which is expected to enhance rainfall across several parts of the state, particularly in Vidarbha, the Western Ghats, and parts of Western Maharashtra.

Yellow Alert for Pune, Ahilyanagar and Parts of Western Maharashtra
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Pune district, the Pune Ghat region, and Ahilyanagar, where thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places.
Neighbouring districts including Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur are expected to receive light rainfall, although no weather warning has been issued for these areas.
Vidarbha to Receive Widespread Rain
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for the Vidarbha districts of:
- Akola
- Amravati
- Buldhana
- Bhandara
- Chandrapur
- Gadchiroli
- Nagpur
- Wardha
- Washim
- Yavatmal
These districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds reaching 30-40 kmph.
Marathwada Districts on Alert
In the Marathwada region, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for:
- Beed
- Parbhani
- Hingoli
These districts are expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds along with moderate rainfall.
Meanwhile, Jalna and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are likely to receive light showers without any official weather warning. However, uneven rainfall continues to remain a concern for farmers in the region.
Light Rain Expected in Konkan and North Maharashtra
The Konkan districts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. No weather alert has been issued for the coastal belt, although the showers are expected to provide relief from humid conditions.
Similarly, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, and the Nashik Ghat region are likely to experience light to moderate rain under cloudy and humid weather conditions. No heavy rainfall warning has been issued for North Maharashtra.
Rainfall Likely to Ease After July 20
According to the IMD, the monsoon has become active again over Maharashtra after a brief lull during the past few days. While rainfall is expected to remain significant over the next 24 hours, weather conditions may improve from July 20, with rainfall activity likely to reduce for a few days.
The department has, however, indicated that monsoon activity is expected to intensify again during the last week of July.
The IMD has advised residents, tourists, and farmers to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and follow advisories issued by the weather and agriculture departments, especially in areas likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning.
