Maharashtra, June 8, 2026: With the southwest monsoon advancing across Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and gusty winds over the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, several regions across Konkan, North Maharashtra, Western Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to experience changing weather conditions, with wind speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph accompanied by moderate rainfall and thunderstorm activity.

In the Konkan region, yellow alerts have been issued for Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Cloudy skies, intermittent rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, while coastal areas may witness stronger winds. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially in low-lying and coastal zones.

North Maharashtra districts of Nashik and Ahilyanagar are also under a yellow alert. Meanwhile, Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli and Solapur in Western Maharashtra are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Weather officials have warned of lightning activity and sudden gusts of wind in these districts.

In the Marathwada region, Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv have been placed under a yellow alert. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected at isolated locations. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops from possible wind-related damage.

The IMD has also issued alerts for eight Vidarbha districts — Akola, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal. These areas may experience thunderstorms, lightning and moderate rainfall during the forecast period.

Palghar remains the only district under a yellow alert for heatwave conditions. While daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, meteorologists have predicted a change in weather later in the day, with the possibility of light to moderate showers during the afternoon and evening.

No official alert has been issued for Jalgaon, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani and Hingoli districts. However, weather officials have indicated that some parts of these districts may still receive light to moderate rainfall.

The IMD has advised citizens to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, stay indoors during lightning activity, and keep track of local weather updates. With monsoon activity strengthening across the state, fluctuating weather conditions are expected to persist in many regions over the coming days.
