Maharashtra Weather Update: Monsoon to Regain Strength After Week-Long Pause; Rain Forecast Across Half of the State
Pune | June 9, 2025: After a week-long break that sparked concern among farmers, the monsoon is expected to regain momentum in Maharashtra, bringing widespread rainfall across various regions starting this week. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate showers are likely in several districts, with heavy rain forecast for select areas.
Rain Likely in Konkan, North Maharashtra, and Western Maharashtra
As per the latest weather predictions, districts in the Konkan region including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg may witness light to moderate rainfall on June 9 and 10. Sindhudurg could experience heavy downpours in isolated areas on June 10. North Maharashtra districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar are also expected to receive rainfall, with strong showers likely around the Nashik Ghat areas.
Western Maharashtra and Marathwada—including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Beed, Latur, Nanded, Aurangabad, Hingoli, and Dharashiv—may experience thunderstorms, gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 kmph, and moderate rainfall.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Pune and Satara districts.
Vidarbha to Witness Unstable Weather Between June 9 and 12
Though currently experiencing dry conditions, Vidarbha is expected to receive rainfall accompanied by strong winds between June 9 and 12. Districts such as Nagpur, Akola, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia, and Chandrapur have been put on alert.
Meanwhile, Mumbai, Thane, and suburban areas continue to face rising heat levels. Rainfall is anticipated in these regions after June 12.
Citizens and Farmers Urged to Remain Alert
The IMD has advised residents to take necessary precautions: avoid standing under trees during lightning, stay away from electrical equipment, and follow guidelines issued by local authorities. Farmers have been urged to implement crop protection measures.
When and Where Will It Rain Across Maharashtra?
- June 9:Â Light to moderate showers expected in Mumbai and seven districts of Konkan.
- June 10–12: Slight reduction in rainfall intensity expected.
- Till June 12:Â Light, scattered rainfall likely in 29 districts across Maharashtra.
Weather expert Manikrao Khule advised farmers to delay sowing activities until after June 15, once monsoon conditions stabilize, and adequate soil moisture is available.
Monsoon Revival Expected After June 13
After an early onset of monsoon in Mumbai on May 26, which quickly reached Vidarbha through Gadchiroli, the rainfall stalled due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions. As a result, regions like Khandesh, Nashik, and northern parts of Vidarbha are still awaiting consistent rainfall.
Meteorologists now anticipate a revival of the monsoon from June 13 onwards, with moderate rainfall expected across most parts of the state as conditions become favorable again.
May 2025 Breaks 124-Year Rainfall Record
Interestingly, May 2025 has been the wettest in 124 years, recording 126.7 mm of rainfall, the highest in over a century. Experts also noted that the upcoming Mrug Nakshatra rains are expected to commence soon, further accelerating the monsoon’s progress across Maharashtra.
