PUNE: A 48-year-old man was taken into custody at a five-star hotel in Yerawada, Pune, for possessing two Aadhaar cards with the same identification number but different names and addresses. The arrest was made following a tip-off from the hotel staff who noticed suspicious behaviour from the man.

The First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Saturday at the Yerawada police station, with the man now facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including fraud and forgery. The police have confiscated two Aadhaar cards and a cell phone from him for further investigation.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Manoj Patil, disclosed that the Aadhaar cards bore one Hindu and one Muslim name. This discovery led to speculation that the accused might have changed his religion. However, his motives are still unclear, as he was also involved in a dispute over the hotel bills, which initially raised suspicion among the hotel staff.

Senior police inspector Santosh Patil added that the individual is originally from Tamil Nadu but had been staying in a paying guest facility in Wadgaon Sheri, Pune. While it is suspected that the man works in the hospitality industry, investigations are ongoing to ascertain his exact occupation and the reasons behind his possession of two Aadhaar cards with conflicting details.
