A video has emerged showing a man hanging precariously from a moving train in Uttar Pradesh, India, while attempting to film an Instagram Reel. The footage, reportedly from a train traveling from Kasganj to Kanpur, shows the young man losing his balance and hanging from the exterior of the speeding train’s window. It’s a disturbing reminder of how far some people will go for social media attention, even putting their lives at risk.
The video shows the man clinging to the hand of another passenger as the train speeds through the countryside. Thankfully, the train comes to a stop, allowing him to get off safely. But, it could have ended tragically. If the train hadn’t stopped, or if he had lost his grip and fallen from the moving train, the consequences could have been fatal.
After the video went viral, the ADG zone Kanpur posted on X (formerly Twitter), instructing the Government Railway Police UP (GRP) to investigate the incident. The GRP then tagged SP GRP Agra, asking them to look into it further. The authorities acted quickly, with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) announcing on their official X account that they had arrested the man, identified as Ritesh Kumar. Kumar was also told to make an apology video.
People are furious about this incident, and it’s raising a lot of questions about safety and the dangers of chasing online fame. Lots of people are criticizing the man’s reckless behavior and warning others not to try similar stunts. One person wrote, “I don’t know what has happened to people; they are putting their lives at risk under the influence of Reels.” Another said, “Risking life for a Reel is not worth it! Glad he was saved, but I hope this serves as a lesson—safety should always come first.” And a third commented, “Next time, maybe try a stunt that doesn’t involve a one-way ticket to the hospital.”
And a few even offered words of support, writing, “I hope he learns from this and makes better choices in the future.”
