The manifesto released by the Pune Cab Association’s Lok Sabha candidates outlines several key points aimed at addressing the concerns and improving the livelihoods of various gig workers and transport professionals in Pune and surrounding areas.

Here’s a breakdown of their manifesto:

  1. Stop Open Rickshaw and Taxi Permit Policy: The candidates aim to halt the open permit policy for rickshaws and taxis, which they believe has disadvantaged traditional rickshaw pullers in favor of online companies. This move intends to reclaim lost business for traditional rickshaw pullers.
  2. Close Fleet and Vendorship Model of Online Companies: By ending the fleet and vendorship model of online companies, the candidates seek to ensure that cab drivers receive government-mandated rates. This is expected to increase daily earnings for both rickshaw pullers and cab drivers significantly.
  3. Enact Maharashtra Gig Workers Act: The candidates pledge to advocate for the enactment of the Maharashtra Gig Workers Act in Parliament. This legislation aims to double the income of gig workers, including those working for platforms like Swiggy, Zomato, and Urban Clap, while also ensuring sustainable business practices.
  4. Stop Extortion of Tempo Drivers: The manifesto promises to put an end to extortion faced by tempo drivers through the use of apps like Porter, along with implementing heavy fines from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to deter such practices.
  5. Establish 24X7 Labor Help Center: To address the issues faced by gig workers and other laborers, the candidates propose the establishment of a 24X7 labor help center in Pune. Additionally, they pledge to pursue the implementation of the Gharkul Scheme, which provides low-cost housing for workers, in Pune.

These initiatives reflect the candidates’ commitment to addressing the challenges faced by gig workers and transport professionals in Pune and improving their working conditions and livelihoods.
