A man’s risky venture of traveling 400 km atop the roof of the Humsafar Express from Delhi to Kanpur caused panic among passengers and disrupted train operations.

Identified as Dilip Kumar from Fatehpur, the incident unfolded as Kumar was spotted lying on the roof of the New Delhi-Gorakhpur bound train, triggering alarm at Kanpur Central railway station.

Officials, including Deputy Chief Traffic Manager Ashutosh Singh and Assistant Commercial Manager Railway Santosh Kumar Tripathi, rushed to the scene to ensure Kumar’s safety. Bringing him down proved challenging, requiring a temporary shutdown of power supply to the overhead wires carrying 25,000 volts. This disruption halted train operations in and around the station for approximately 20 minutes.

Despite the gravity of his actions, Kumar was fortunate to have avoided standing on the train’s roof during the journey, sparing him from potential electrocution by the overhead wires, as confirmed by GRP personnel.

The incident garnered widespread attention after a video of Kumar’s reckless act went viral on social media platforms.

Passengers onboard the Humsafar Express raised an alarm upon noticing Kumar on the roof of the B-11 AC coach as the train entered platform 9 of Kanpur Central station.

While Kumar’s motive for undertaking such a perilous journey remains unclear, his family from Fatehpur eventually arrived and escorted him home after the incident.
