Dr. Suhas Diwase, the Pune District Collector, has issued an order to close markets on the polling day in Pune, Maval, and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies on May 13.

The aim is to ensure a peaceful and fearless atmosphere for the Lok Sabha elections in the district. This directive, issued under Section 5 of the Mumbai Market and Fair Act 1862, affects several weekly markets in different talukas.

The markets to be closed include Takve Budruk in Maval taluka under Maval Lok Sabha constituency, Belhe in Junnar taluka under Shirur Lok Sabha constituency, and others. Specifically, markets in Khed taluka (Dhamani, Lakhangaon, Nagapur, Mahalunge Padwal, and Tirpad) and Shirur taluka (Kendur, Talegaon Dhamdre, Vadgaon Rasai, and Samvidane) will also remain shut on May 13.
The order emphasizes that any violation will lead to penal action as per the provisions of the Mumbai Market and Fair Act, 1862. This measure underscores the administration’s commitment to conducting the electoral process smoothly and without disruptions.

By temporarily suspending market activities, authorities aim to prevent any potential disturbances and ensure that citizens can exercise their voting rights freely.

The closure of markets on polling day aligns with efforts to uphold the integrity and peaceful conduct of the democratic process in Pune, Maval, and Shirur Lok Sabha constituencies.
