Massive Traffic Jam on Mumbai-Goa Highway Ahead of Holi Weekend

Mumbai, March 13, 2025: A massive traffic jam has brought the Mumbai-Goa Highway to a standstill as thousands of holidaymakers head towards Konkan and their hometowns for the extended Holi weekend. The ongoing construction work on the highway has further worsened the congestion.
Holi falls on Friday, March 14, creating a long weekend, prompting a surge in travel. Many commuters are heading to Konkan for a break, while others are traveling to celebrate the festival with their families. The increased number of vehicles, coupled with incomplete roadwork, has led to prolonged traffic delays.
The Mumbai-Goa Highway expansion, initially scheduled for completion by December 2024, has been delayed and is now expected to be fully operational by 2026. The project has faced multiple setbacks, including disputes among contractors on the Sangameshwar-Lanja stretch and the collapse of a flyover in Chiplun.
Recently, Maharashtra’s Minister of Public Works, Shivendra Raje Bhosale, reviewed the progress of the construction and directed officials to expedite the work. Despite past challenges, project officials have assured that all major obstacles have been resolved.
Commuters traveling via the Mumbai-Goa Highway are advised to expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly.
