A routine maternity shoot ended in heartbreak for a JP Nagar family after the toddler slipped into a water pond on the studio premises.

A maternity photoshoot in Bengaluru turned into a devastating tragedy after a three-year-old boy drowned at a photography studio while his mother was participating in the shoot.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at The Shire Studio in Giddenahalli, near Magadi Main Road. The child, identified as Lakshveer C, was the son of Charan Raj and Swathi, a resident of JP Nagar. Swathi is reportedly eight months pregnant and was preparing to welcome her second child.

According to police, the photoshoot was underway around 2.30 pm when the toddler, who was playing nearby, is believed to have wandered towards one of the small water bodies on the studio premises. Officials said the location has three small ponds, and investigators suspect the child may have accidentally slipped into one of them.

Those present reportedly did not notice the fall immediately. When Swathi realised her son was missing, she began searching the area in panic. The child was later found in one of the ponds.

Studio staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination was conducted at Nelamangala Government Hospital, and the body was handed over to the family on Sunday.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death at Madanayakanahalli police station based on a complaint filed by Swathi’s father, Ramesh Babu. Officials said the complaint does not directly allege negligence by the studio management, though investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities are also looking into whether adequate safety precautions were in place, given the presence of open water features at the shoot location.

The child’s father, Charan Raj, who was reportedly abroad for work, has been informed and is expected to return to Bengaluru.

The tragedy has left the family and relatives in deep shock, casting a sombre shadow over what was meant to be a joyful moment of celebration.
