MD Drugs Worth ₹27.55 Lakh Seized; Two Arrested In Hinjawadi By Pimpri Chinchwad Police
Pune, April 2, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Hinjawadi Police Crime Detection Unit arrested two individuals and seized MD drugs along with vehicles and other materials collectively worth ₹27.55 lakh.
Acting on directives from Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoykumar Choubey to crack down on drug trafficking, a team led by Assistant Police Inspector Somnath Panchal was patrolling the Hinjewadi area on March 24, 2026.
During the patrol, Police Constable Naresh Balsane received a tip-off from an informant that a suspect would arrive at Vinode Vasti in Wakad carrying MD drugs in a four-wheeler for sale. Acting swiftly, the team laid a trap near the road connecting Vinode Vasti and Alhat Vasti in Wakad.
The accused, identified as Atul Shankar Balgude (35), a resident of Pathargaon in Maval taluka, was apprehended. Police recovered 42 grams of MD drugs worth ₹4.20 lakh from his possession, along with a four-wheeler valued at ₹3.24 lakh and other materials.
Based on further investigation, his associate Shahrukh alias Saddam Iqbal Ansari was arrested from Govandi in Mumbai with 200 grams of MD drugs worth ₹20 lakh.
A case has been registered at Hinjawadi Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and both accused have been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officials including Additional Commissioner (Crime) Sarang Awad and other senior officers of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police.
