Medical Negligence Again, Surgery Done on the Wrong Eye: Parents File Complaint
A 7-year-old child underwent surgery, but a doctor in Greater Noida mistakenly operated on the incorrect eye. The physician performed the surgical procedure on Yudhisthir, on Tuesday. Upon returning home, the boy’s mother discovered that the surgery had been performed on the incorrect eye.
A seven-year-old boy, who went for surgery on his left eye at a hospital in Greater Noida, had his right eye operated on. An inquiry is currently underway, and appropriate measures will be implemented shortly, according to the police.
This unfortunate incident occurred at Anand Spectrum Hospital in Sector Gamma 1, Greater Noida, on November 12.
The boy’s father, Nitin Bhati, reported that they brought him to the hospital due to frequent watering of his left eye. Upon examination, Dr. Anand Verma informed them that a plastic-like object was present in the eye and that surgery could resolve the issue. The officials reported that the operational expenses amounted to ₹ 45,000.
Upon arriving home, the boy’s mother realized that the surgery had been performed on the incorrect eye. Consequently, his parents approached the doctor to address the issue, but they reported that he and his team behaved inappropriately towards them, according to the police. In response, the family caused a disturbance at the hospital and subsequently lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
“The doctor said that the operation, which cost ₹45,000, was successful, and they said a fine metal-like thing was removed from the eye, whose photo was shown on a mobile phone,” says the boy’s father.
An official announcement from the hospital has not yet been made, and the results of the investigation will be vital in guiding future measures to avoid similar oversights.
