Since December of last year, three men are allegedly responsible for defrauding a former army man over Rs 27 lakh, according to the Warje Malwadi police.

The complainant’s daughter obtained 203 out of 700 points in the NEET and was not able to get an MBBS seat in any government medical college, according to a sub-inspector of the Warje Malwadi police.

After meeting a publisher, the complainant asked for his assistance in getting accepted into a medical college. To finish the job, the publisher later put him in touch with two more people: a former corporator and an education consultant.

The sub-inspector went on to say that the victim was promised by the education consultant that he would assist him in obtaining a seat for his daughter through the NRI quota. For the work, they demanded Rs 27.26 lakh from the victim.

The victim sent them cash as well as through an internet transaction. He was forced to borrow money from acquaintances. On the other hand, the accused was unable to get his daughter admitted to any medical college.

The victim was informed by the suspects that there was no seat available in the relevant medical college. They promised to return the money to him as well. They gave the victim three cheques totaling Rs 11.5 lakh after he followed up on the issue. But because there wasn’t enough money in the issuers’ bank account, these cheques bounced.

After attempting in vain to get the money back, the victim complained to the police, and after being verified, that complaint became a formal police report (FIR).

The case is filed under IPC Sections 420, 406, and 34.
