The Chandannagar police have charged a director of a private company based in Kharadi and two of his employees for defrauding an Indian Air Force (IAF) officer of Rs 8.38 lakh over a five-year lease for his flat on old Mundhwa road.

According to a Chandan nagar police official, the officer, who is presently assigned to the 13 Base Repair Depot at Air Force Station Prahladpur in Palam, New Delhi, put up an ad on a real estate website on October 7, 2021, offering his Mundhwa apartment for rent.

He received a call from a company representative informing him that the company was interested in leasing the apartment for five years, provided he would cover the cost of furnishing the space.

He went on to say that the furnishing cost was estimated by the company to be Rs 8.8 lakh. The officer and the company director signed a notarized lease agreement to lease the apartment from December 1, 2021, to November 30, 2026, for a monthly rent of Rs 50,000, a deposit of Rs 1.5 lakh, and an annual rent increase of 5%. The complainant claimed to have paid the company Rs 8.38 lakh through four NEFT transfers in 2021 to cover the cost of furnishing. But the furniture project never really took off. He claimed that the two company personnel had repeatedly assured him that he would begin receiving his rent on a monthly basis. The company never paid him any rent after December 2021, even though he received the rent for that month.

The police officer went on to say that the complainant is the owner of the apartment. Officials from the company did not furnish the apartment. Instead, they shut down their operations and fled.
