The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has filed a police case in Baramati against nine officials of Red Bird flight training academy over charges of obstructing public servants from doing their duty.

This is the first time that AAIB has filed a case against an operator for obstructing the investigation process into an accident.

The move comes after a video that showed Capt Karan Mann, promoter of Red Bird reprimanding AAIB officials over the preliminary reports the investigators had filed into the October 19 and October 22 crashes involving the flying school’s aircraft.

A senior official of AAIB, who is also the investigation in charge of the two Red Bird October crashes, filed a complaint at the Baramati Taluka Police Station on Monday. A case has been registered against nine persons of Red Bird Pilot Training Institute under Section 353 and 186 of IPC. Both the sections carry imprisonment or fine or both as punishment.

The AAIB officials were present at the flight training academy at Baramati to investigate the said two crashes. Mann alleges that the AAIB officials filed the preliminary report based on false facts, to which the AAIB officials say they have proof and evidence to back their findings.
