Meet Sanjay Malhotra: The new RBI Governor
On December 9, the government announced that Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed as the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Malhotra graduated in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in 1989, and later obtained a Master’s degree in public policy from Princeton University in the USA. After that he successfully passed the UPSC Civil Services Examination and became an Indian Administrative Service Officer in the Rajasthan cadre. Over his 33-year career, he has worked in various fields, including power, finance and taxation, information technology, and mines. He will serve as the RBI governor for a term of three years starting from December 11.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is recognized as one of the Institutes of National Importance by the Government of India. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, it secured the 4th position in the engineering category. Additionally, it ranked 5th overall, 7th in research, and 30th in the management category.On an international level, the QS World University Ranking 2024 placed IIT Kanpur at the 263rd position among the top colleges worldwide.
Princeton University was established in 1746 as the College of New Jersey and is recognized as the fourth college founded in British North America. In the QS University rankings, it holds the 22nd position, while it is ranked 4th in the Times Higher Education rankings.
