The Minister of Food and Drug Administration, Dharmarao Baba Atram, has instructed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take stringent action against vendors who engage in food adulteration. These remarks were made by him during a review meeting of the Food and Drug Administration held at the VIP Rest House in Pune recently.

Keeping the health and well-being of the citizens in mind, it is imperative that the citizens have access to clean and uncontaminated food.

Joint Commissioner (Food) Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner (Drugs) SV Prataprao, and Assistant Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration, Pune Division, were present during the meeting. Atram emphasized that during festive periods, citizens tend to purchase various sweets, and it is crucial for them to ensure the quality and purity of the food they consume.

Regular inspections of hotel kitchens should be conducted, and prompt action should be taken on any complaints received. Additionally, the growing trend of online shopping among citizens should be monitored. Regular checks on cosmetic, allopathic, and ayurvedic products are also necessary. The government is committed to strengthening the Food and Drug Administration, and plans are underway to recruit 60 employees through external agencies.

As per the information received, funds have been allocated for training and the construction of laboratories. Vehicles will also be procured through external agencies. Atram informed that efforts are being made to fill vacant positions and improve the functioning of the department. In areas where office space is limited, proposals should be submitted to address this issue.

Atram assured that any administrative challenges will be resolved and that there will be no shortage of funds for this purpose. During the meeting, the functioning of the food and drug administration in the Pune division was presented.
