Pune : Residents in the Wanowrie area are troubled by the long-standing garbage & waste dumping issue opposite Flower Valley in Wanowrie.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dr Leena Shah, resident of Wanowrie said, “The dumping has increased here. For more than 3 months, this has become a dumping yard which is exactly opposite Flower Valley. It’s a perfect place for breeding mosquitoes, rats, and snakes too. There are several poisonous trees etc. Construction waste is also dumped here. 2 to 3 families have started living there as a house has been constructed there with all the furniture like sofas etc. Clothes are dried up on these. We have complained about this a lot of times to the PMC but nothing has happened as that land is under litigation. If Bougainvillea plants or some other plants are planted in the area, then nobody will dump garbage there & also it will look beautiful.”

Anushka Kajbaje, Resident of Wanowrie, said “The open space at the ground near Flower Valley has become a dumping space. There are vegetable sellers, beggars sleeping on the footpaths, etc. Everyone has created an unhygienic atmosphere there. This issue has been prevalent for a long time. We have done everything like Swachhata Rallies etc but no permanent solution has come up. There is no control of anyone there. People simply dump the waste in the open.”

Maithili Manakawad, Secretary of Wanowrie Residents Forum, said “The plot is private. The entire ground gets filled with a lot of garbage. The citizens also must work with the PMC towards keeping the vicinity clean by not dumping waste in the open.”

Sham Taru, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, PMC Wanowrie-Ramtekdi Ward Office, said, “The entire area of Flower Valley Lane is cleaned all the time with no garbage or waste remaining or accumulating there.  The concerned department shall be alerted about it again. “
