Pune: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has written a letter to Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar and requested to waive off the three fold property tax collected from the villages which are newly included in PMC.

The letter submitted to the Commissioner stated that the decision to give relief to citizens should be taken immediately. After the government’s decision to waive off penalty on property tax collected from the newly added villages in PCMC, the Pune civic authority too should think about it and announce waive off.

Although the unauthorized constructions in the city are putting a strain on the city’s service facilities. Municipal corporation instead of taking action against it, is using the unauthorized property as a source of income, stated the letter.

Therefore, the city MNS has demanded that the decision of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation should be followed by the Pune Municipal Corporation. The construction that took place while these villages were in Gram Panchayat, PMC is now collecting three fold property tax from these property holders and charging inflated tax amount from these constructions and also making it a source of income for the civic body, which is unjustified.

Sainath Babar, MNS city president said, “The state government has waived the penalty tax in Pimpri Chinchwad city. Why is this decision only for Pimpri Chinchwad city? We demand to follow up with the state government to stop the imposition of three times penalty on property tax in 23 villages newly included in Pune Municipal Corporation.”
