At least 10 machines have been installed on footpaths in Pune and 32 more have been planned to be set-up.

Pune: The swachh ATM installed at various places in Pune. This is a machine that collects used bottles, cans and glass bottles and pays ₹1, ₹2 and ₹3 in return. However, MNS party leader Vasant More has said these machines are fake and they are only installed for making money through advertising. He has also warned of vandalising the machines if not removed. At least 10 machines have been installed on footpaths in Pune and 32 more have been planned to be set-up. However, these machines have been given by a company from its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

Vasant More said, “The machine placed on the footpath is to collect the waste and it has been installed with CSR funds from a company in Delhi. Why is it giving contact numbers for advertisements? They should not take any ads and display them. And the ad costs ₹60,000 per month and ₹2,000 per day. While the machine has occupied 50% footpath space.”

More said that the machine was occupying space on the footpath and it requires electricity round-the-clock.

“The bottles thrown in the atm are not picked by anyone. The whole reason behind installing this machine is to display ads and make money out of it. We have raised the issue to PMC officials and we have given the ultimatum to remove them or we will vandalise it,” said More.
