Pune: The rising number of Covid cases have again made the State Government and local authority alert. Accordingly, the Pune Municipal Corporation will start thermal screening of passengers at Pune Airport and affected people will be kept in isolation, if necessary.  To curb the spread, Pune Municipal Corporation and health authorities have planned to take certain precautionary steps and impose protocols.

Speaking about the rising cases, Ravindra Binawade, Additional Commissioner PMC said, “Citizens should not panic or worry. Pune Municipal Corporation is well-prepared. We have a good reserve of vaccines, medicines and testing kits. Our health officers are also prepared. A team of PMC will be deployed at the Pune Airport for starting thermal screening of passengers where international flights land. Passengers if required will be kept in isolation and medical facilities will also be made available.”

“We appeal to people to use masks in crowded places and also if a person has symptoms of Covid, then the person must avoid going to public places,” said Binawade.

Speaking about the vaccination, he said, “Citizens have completed their vaccination but many have not taken the booster dose. We have enough stock of booster dose vaccines.  Citizens will be contacted from the call centre and informed about the booster dose vaccine due. We have also started identifying palces which are hotspots.”

“Pune Municipal Corporation has contacted us and thermal screening will be started at the airport for international passengers by the civic body,” said Santosh Doke, Airport director.
