Monsoon intensifies; alerts sounded for Konkan, Satara Ghat, and parts of Vidarbha
Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra are set to experience intensified monsoon activity starting June 22, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing yellow and orange alerts for multiple districts. The city is already grappling with waterlogging and traffic disruptions, and further rainfall is expected to disrupt normal life.
According to the IMD forecast, Konkan, Goa, and the Ghat regions of central Maharashtra are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall between June 22 and 25. The department has urged residents to take necessary precautions as monsoon havoc continues in several areas.
Orange Alert:
- Sindhudurg district: June 23
- Ghat areas of Satara district: June 23 to 25
Yellow Alert:
- Mumbai: June 22 to 24
- Sindhudurg: June 21 to 25
- Vidarbha region: Alert for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated pockets
The cloudy skies and intermittent light showers in Sindhudurg on Friday hint at an escalation, especially in areas near the Sahyadri mountain range. Officials have extended the yellow alert there till June 25, with expectations of continued rain activity.
In Vidarbha, the IMD has specifically warned about lightning strikes, advising farmers and residents to avoid open areas and remain cautious.
Authorities across the affected districts have been placed on standby. Local administrations have been instructed to monitor weather developments closely and stay ready for emergency response measures, if needed.
Residents are advised to stay tuned to local bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
