Pune/Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken over the responsibility of developing 117 villages along the proposed Pune Ring Road project. In an official notification issued on October 10 by the Urban Development Department, MSRDC has been designated as the Special Planning Authority (SPA) for the comprehensive development of these villages, covering an area of 668 square kilometers.

The Pune Ring Road project, aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, spans 172 kilometers and has a width of 112 meters. MSRDC has already completed the tendering process for the project and established a special purpose vehicle (SPV) named MSRDC Pune Ring Road Limited (MPRRL) for its implementation.

As part of the development plan, two economic development centers will be established within the 117 villages. A proposal regarding the same had earlier been submitted by MSRDC to the Urban Development Department. The areas include 62 villages in Haveli, Bhor, and Purandar talukas, and 55 villages in Haveli, Mulshi, and Velhe talukas.
