MSRTC Launches National Common Mobility Card System, Ushering In Digital Transformation Of State Transport Travel
Mumbai | February 12, 2026: In a major step towards digitalisation and cashless travel, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced the implementation of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) system across its bus services. The initiative marks the beginning of a new digital era in ST travel, aimed at enhancing transparency, convenience, and efficiency in passenger services.
Under the new system, the smart card will become mandatory for availing various social concessions, including benefits for students, senior citizens, women, persons with disabilities, pilgrims, and journalists. MSRTC has signed agreements with Ebiz Technologies Ltd. and NSDL Payments Bank for the implementation of the project, and a statewide registration drive is set to begin shortly across all depots.
The move is expected to modernise the traditionally manual ticketing system, reducing dependence on cash transactions and eliminating the hassle of carrying change. Officials said the initiative will make travel more secure, seamless, and transparent, while bringing ST services in line with modern digital mobility systems.
Key Features of the NCMC Smart Card:
Cost: ₹199 (including GST); ₹149 for users submitting old smart cards
Wallet Limit: Minimum balance ₹100; recharge in multiples of ₹50
Recharge Options: ETIM machines, official website, mobile app, and authorised agents
Registration Support: Over 3,000 authorised agents appointed, especially for senior citizens and women
Rural Accessibility: On-the-spot registration at bus stations to benefit rural passengers
The NCMC rollout is being seen as a landmark reform in MSRTC’s journey towards digital governance and smart public transport services in Maharashtra.
