Mukta Tilak passes away due to prolonged illness

Pune: Former mayor Mukta Tilak (57-year-old), a Bhartiya Janata Party Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Kasba constituency passed away on Thursday. She was suffering from breast cancer for the last five years.

She is survived by her husband Shailesh, son Kunal and daughter Chaitali. Her mortal remains will be kept for paying the last respects at the Kesari Wada between 9 am to 11 am on Friday, December 23.

Last rites will be held at Vaikunth Crematorium after 11 am.

As per a statement by Galaxy Care Multispeciality Hospital Pvt Limited, “Mukta Tilak was admitted to Galaxy Hospital at 1 pm on December 8. She was suffering from Breast Cancer for the last five years.”

Despite aggressive treatment, the cancer was in an advanced stage and the response to therapy diminished. She passed away at 3.30 pm on 22/12/22 due to advanced cancer. 

In the municipal elections of 2017, BJP got a clear majority. After BJP came to power for the first time in the history of the Municipal Corporation, Mukta Tilak got the honour of being the first Mayor of the BJP.

Tilak was the mayor for two and a half years. While still a corporator, she contested the election from the Kasba assembly constituency in 2019. She had won from Kasba Assembly Constituency.
