Pre-monsoon upkeep to ensure safety; airlines notified six months in advance

Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be suspended from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 8, as both runways (09/27 and 14/32) will undergo scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance, the Adani Group-led airport authority announced.

The six-hour closure is a routine safety measure to inspect and repair runway infrastructure, preventing issues like waterlogging during the rainy season. Airlines were informed well in advance through a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), allowing time to adjust schedules.

In related developments, MIAL has also proposed a new User Development Fee (UDF), Rs 325 for domestic flyers and a hike from Rs 187 to Rs 650 for international passengers to fund a ₹10,000 crore infrastructure upgrade. To ease the impact, MIAL plans a 35% cut in landing and parking charges for airlines.

The proposal is currently under review by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), with Adani Group seeking to raise the Yield Per Passenger (YPP) from Rs 285 to Rs 332, aligning with AERA’s recent consultation paper.
