Mumbai, May 2, 2026: Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be temporarily suspended for six hours on May 7 as part of scheduled pre-monsoon maintenance work.

According to an official advisory, both the primary runway (09/27) and secondary runway (14/32) will remain non-operational between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The planned shutdown is aimed at ensuring safety and maintaining efficient airport operations ahead of the monsoon season.

Airport authorities stated that preparations for this maintenance activity began nearly six months in advance, with airlines being informed early to allow rescheduling of flights and minimise inconvenience to passengers.

The maintenance work will involve detailed inspections of runway surfaces to identify cracks, wear and tear, and any structural weaknesses that could impact aircraft movement. Necessary preventive repairs will be carried out to ensure safe take-offs and landings during the rainy season.

In addition to runway checks, teams will also examine the airport’s drainage systems to prevent waterlogging during heavy rains. Advanced equipment and monitoring systems will be used to complete the work within the designated time frame.

CSMIA, which spans over 1,000 acres, undergoes such routine maintenance every year before the monsoon to enhance operational safety. A similar inspection is also conducted after the monsoon season, typically between October and November, to address any damage caused by prolonged rainfall.

Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for updated flight schedules on May 7.
