Heavy vehicles are not allowed on the Mumbai-Goa highway on January 5, 2023, in anticipation of the ‘Government at Your Doorstep’ program at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University in Lonere, Raigad district.

The decision is intended to avoid any possible traffic jams on the highway during the event, which is anticipated to attract 75,000 people.

On January 5, heavy vehicles are prohibited from operating on the Mumbai-Goa highway from 1 am to 11 pm except those that deliver milk, diesel, cooking gas, medications, oxygen and vegetables.

The National Highway 66 stretch from Khopoli – Pali phata to Wakan and the National Highway 548 stretch from Kashedi in Poladpur taluka to Kharpada in Pen taluka are both prohibited.

As part of a grievance redressal initiative, the “Sarkar Tumchya Daari” (Government at Your Doorstep) program makes sure that locals can fully benefit from various government schemes and initiatives.

A police official said that traffic diversion is also planned because there is a possibility of traffic congestion on the Mumbai Goa highway due to the approximately 2000 buses that are expected to arrive for this event with the people.

On January 5, other vehicles coming from Goa would be detoured via the Morbe to Mangaon route between 8 am & 12 pm and 3 pm & 10 pm.
