Mumbai : Maharashtra cabinet approves 9 new government medical colleges

Mumbai, June 30 : The Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday gave approval of Rs 4365.72 crores to start new government medical colleges and 430-bed hospitals in nine districts across the state.Chief Minister Eknath Shinde presided over the meeting which was attended by Dy Chief minister and all cabinet ministers.


These districts are Palghar, Thane (Ambernath), Jalna, Amravati, Buldhana, Washim, Wardha, Bhandara and Gadchiroli where new medical colleges will start with an intake capacity of 100 students each college.


At present there are 23 government medical colleges and their admission capacity is 3,750 students. Maharashtra has 0.74 doctors per thousand population. At the national level, this ratio is equal to 0.90. Rs 4,365.72 crores is expected to be spent on these nine colleges
