Advanced AI surveillance ensures stricter enforcement of traffic regulations for safer journeys.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway has introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-based cameras at 52 locations under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to enhance road safety. These state-of-the-art cameras monitor driver behavior and issue e-challans for violations, including speeding, not wearing seatbelts, lane indiscipline, and mobile phone usage while driving.

Speed Limits and Enforcement

According to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Officer’s Office:

Ghat Area:

Blis1

• Light motor vehicles: 60 kmph

• Other vehicles: 40 kmph

Other Sections:

• Light vehicles: 100 kmph

• Other vehicles: 80 kmph

Vehicles exceeding these limits are detected via radar technology, and e-challans are automatically generated. Drivers are urged to adhere to speed limits to avoid fines and ensure safety.

Common Violations Monitored by AI Cameras

• Not Wearing Seatbelts: Mandatory for all passengers.

• Using Mobile Phones While Driving: Strictly prohibited to prevent distractions.

• Lane Discipline Violations: Drivers must follow proper lane rules when changing lanes.

Authorities’ Appeal to Drivers

The Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO has requested motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, particularly speed limits and seatbelt usage. Mobile phone usage while driving should be avoided entirely.

Impact of AI and ITMS

The AI cameras and ITMS technology are expected to reduce accidents significantly, making highway travel safer. Drivers are encouraged to comply with these measures to ensure a smooth and penalty-free journey.
