Mumbai/Pune, July 6, 2026: Heavy monsoon rains triggered a landslide in the Karjat–Lonavala ghat section early Monday, severely disrupting rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune. The incident has led to the cancellation of 16 trains and the diversion of nine others, while flight operations have also been affected due to adverse weather conditions.

According to Central Railway, the landslide occurred between Thakurvadi and Monkey Hill Loop Cabin on the Up Main Line in the South East Ghat section following incessant rainfall. Restoration work is underway, but continuous rain has hampered clearance operations.

The disruption has affected one of Maharashtra’s busiest rail corridors, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. Railway authorities have advised commuters to check the latest train status before commencing their journey.

The heavy rainfall has also impacted flight operations, with delays and diversions reported at Mumbai airport. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several parts of Maharashtra, warning of continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel, particularly through the Mumbai–Pune corridor, until weather conditions improve and transport services return to normal.
