Mulshi, July 6, 2026: The Pune district administration has closed the Tamhini Ghat stretch on National Highway 753F, connecting Paud in Pune district to Mangaon in Raigad district, for all vehicular traffic following continuous heavy rainfall and severe flooding.

The closure came into effect at 9:00 PM on Sunday, July 5, and will remain in force until further orders.

According to an official order issued by Vijaykumar Chobe, Tehsildar and Taluka Executive Magistrate, Mulshi (Paud), relentless rainfall over the past two days caused a nearby stream to overflow, sending a strong flow of water across the highway near Dongarwadi Plus Valley Point at Kilometer 59/200, making the road unsafe for motorists.

The decision was taken after the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) informed the district administration that continued movement of vehicles on the flooded stretch posed a serious risk. The administration also considered weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, before issuing the closure order.

The order has directed the Senior Police Inspectors of Paud Police Station in Pune district and Mangaon Police Station in Raigad district to enforce the closure from both ends of the highway. All vehicles, including private cars, two-wheelers, buses, and heavy commercial vehicles, have been barred from using the route until it is declared safe.

A major portion of the Pune-Kolad road in the Tamhini Ghat section collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
According to the police, the incident occurred on July 5 near Nive village in Mulshi taluka, Pune district, where a powerful flow of rainwater washed away a significant stretch of the road, leaving it severely damaged. The collapse brought traffic on the route to a complete standstill for nearly four hours.
As the road has become highly unsafe, the Pune-Kolad route through Tamhini Ghat has been temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice.

Authorities said the precautionary measure has been taken to ensure public safety, as the Tamhini Ghat remains vulnerable to flooding and landslides during periods of intense rainfall.

Commuters travelling between Pune and the Konkan region via Tamhini Ghat have been advised to postpone their journey or use alternative routes until normal traffic is restored. Police and disaster management teams remain on alert as heavy rain continues across the region.
