A woman in Mumbai faced a disturbing encounter when a man claiming to be a police officer tried to extort money from her for vaping. The incident took place in the Powai area and was shared on social media by the woman’s sibling.

The woman, who was returning from college, was in an autorickshaw when the man, dressed in plain clothes, entered and demanded ₹50,000 for using a vape. He refused to show identification and attempted to intimidate her, even vaping from her device. The man threatened to take her to Powai police station if she didn’t pay.

Panicking, the woman called her sibling, who advised her to record the encounter. Once she began filming, the man became visibly nervous, covered his face, and tried to break her phone. The woman reminded him that a female officer must be present for any arrest, but he continued to pressure her.

Eventually, sensing the situation was being documented, the man quickly left the auto. Before leaving, he made a threatening remark, saying, “I’ll deal with her later.” The sibling noted that the man never identified himself throughout the incident.

The viral social media posts have sparked outrage, with many calling on the Mumbai Police to take swift action. Social media users praised the woman’s quick thinking and called attention to the potential dangers of such impostors. Some clarified that while selling and distributing e-cigarettes is banned, personal use is not illegal.

The Mumbai Police are expected to investigate the matter.
