In a significant development for Mumbai’s public transport, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has concluded preparations for the city’s inaugural bus service operating on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), famously known as the Atal Setu. The newly designated bus route, S-145, has been meticulously planned in collaboration with the Chalo app, marking a historic milestone for commuters in the bustling metropolis.

Route Description: The S-145 bus route is designed to traverse between Konkan Bhavan, Belapur, and the World Trade Centre via the Atal Setu. Commencing its journey from Konkan Bhavan, the route will span across significant locations including Sai Sangam, Targhar, Ulwe node, Aai Tarumata, Kamdhenu Oaklands, MTHL, Eastern Freeway, CSMT, Churchgate station, and culminate at Cuffe Parade.

Service Schedule: Initially, the service will operate with two trips in the morning from Belapur to the World Trade Centre and two in the evening from the World Trade Centre to Belapur. This strategic scheduling aims to cater to the commuting needs of passengers during peak hours, enhancing accessibility and convenience.

Trial and Feedback: The BEST has conducted a thorough trial of the route, engaging bus enthusiasts and experts for their valuable feedback and insights. This collaborative approach underscores the commitment of BEST to optimize service quality and passenger experience.

Fine-tuning Operations: With the route finalized, the BEST is actively working on refining operational aspects such as fare structure and service logistics. This meticulous planning ensures seamless execution and efficient service delivery upon commencement.

Significance of Atal Setu:

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, India’s longest sea link, stands as a testament to modern engineering prowess. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, the 21.8 km marvel has significantly reduced travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to a mere 15-20 minutes, revolutionizing inter-city connectivity.

Commendation and Future Prospects:

Bus enthusiast and expert Shubham Padave lauded the collaborative efforts of the Chalo App and BEST Undertaking in expanding public transport accessibility across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Padave expressed pride in witnessing Mumbai’s public transport authority pioneering initiatives to facilitate seamless travel experiences for citizens.

In a recent development, Shiv Sena leader Milind Deora advocated for the implementation of a “bus priority lane” on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, highlighting the need for enhanced infrastructure to bolster public transportation initiatives.

Amidst growing urban mobility challenges, the introduction of Mumbai’s inaugural bus service on the Atal Setu signifies a significant stride towards fostering sustainable and inclusive transport solutions for the vibrant cityscape of Mumbai.
