Nationwide Doctor Strike Announced By IMA On August 17 In Response To Kolkata Rape-Murder Case
Kolkata — The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a nationwide withdrawal of services for 24 hours on August 17, from 6 am to 6 am on August 18, in protest against the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The IMA also condemned the violence against protesting doctors on the eve of Independence Day.
In a statement released on Thursday night, the IMA announced that services provided by doctors of modern medicine will be suspended during this period, except for essential services. Routine outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective surgeries will not be conducted. The strike will affect all sectors where modern medicine doctors are currently serving.

The IMA emphasized that casualties will be attended to and essential medical services will continue. The association seeks nationwide sympathy and support for its cause, urging solidarity in addressing these critical issues affecting the medical community.
