In a shocking road rage incident in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, a 45-year-old IT professional, Shivkumar Roshanlal Sharma, was fatally assaulted with a helmet following an altercation over overtaking. The incident occurred on Sunday night around 8:30 PM between Belpada and Utsav Chowk.
According to the Kharghar police, two unidentified men, suspected to be in their early 20s, attacked Sharma after a minor dispute while riding their two-wheeler. Witnesses reported that the argument escalated quickly, leading to the brutal assault. Despite sustaining severe head injuries, Sharma managed to ride his motorcycle to the Kharghar police station, where he reported the assault before collapsing. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Assistant Police Inspector Parag Londhe stated, “The exact cause of the altercation is still under investigation, but witnesses believe it was related to overtaking.” A bystander recorded the attack, and the video footage has been handed over to the police. Based on this evidence, a murder case has been registered, and a search operation is underway to apprehend the suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Sharma, a resident of Sector 36, Kharghar, worked as a Project Manager at NuSummit Technology in Vashi. He lived alone due to a marital dispute, and his four sisters reside in Panvel and Vashi. Senior Police Inspector Deepak Surve confirmed that Sharma’s parents are deceased.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting growing concerns over road rage and public safety in Navi Mumbai.
