Pune Ranks Second as Maharashtra Reports 2.19 Lakh Financial Fraud Cases Worth Rs.38,000 Crore in 2024
Maharashtra witnessed a staggering 2,19,047 financial fraud cases in 2024, involving a total of ₹38,872.14 crore, according to data released by the state Home Department. Mumbai topped the list with the highest number of cases, while Pune ranked second in both the number of incidents and financial losses.
Mumbai reported 51,873 cases amounting to ₹12,404.12 crore in losses. Pune city followed closely with 22,059 cases, resulting in financial losses of ₹5,122.66 crore. The larger Pune district recorded 42,802 fraud cases, including 16,115 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, which faced losses of ₹3,291.25 crore, and 4,628 cases in Pune Rural, accounting for ₹434.35 crore in losses.
Thane district also reported a high number of fraud cases, totaling 35,388. Thane city recorded 20,892 cases, Navi Mumbai reported 13,260 cases, and Thane Rural had 1,236 cases, with overall losses reaching ₹8,583.61 crore.
Other notable regions include Mira Bhayander and Vasai Virar, which reported 11,754 cases with losses of ₹1,431.18 crore. Nagpur city registered 11,875 cases, while Nagpur Rural accounted for 1,620 cases, with total financial losses amounting to ₹1,491.07 crore.
Nashik district saw 9,169 fraud cases, with total losses of ₹1,047.32 crore, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar reported 6,090 cases amounting to ₹543.61 crore. Amravati district recorded 2,778 cases, with losses of ₹223.05 crore.
Authorities have urged citizens across Maharashtra, including Pune, to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious financial activities to prevent further incidents.
