UIDAI’s upgraded app will let users share ID details securely, view complete usage history and manage up to five family profiles from one device.

India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI) is preparing to launch a revamped Aadhaar app with major upgrades aimed at improving privacy, convenience and digital security. The new version introduces offline verification, multi-profile support, enhanced biometric controls and one-click access to QR sharing — reducing the need to carry physical Aadhaar cards and cutting the risk of misuse.

During a recent briefing, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said the goal is to build a stronger offline-verification ecosystem and help citizens share identity details securely, without photocopies or physical documents. The app will allow users to choose how much information they want to disclose full details or only selective fields depending on the situation.

Offline verification is expected to simplify multiple everyday interactions. Users will be able to validate identity at hotel check-ins, society gates, offices or events through QR codes and verifiable digital credentials, without handing over personal documents. This reduces the risk of fraud, cloning or data leaks.

Aadhaar holders will also have the option to store and manage profiles of up to five family members. Each profile will include selective information-sharing options, making it easier for parents, senior citizens and dependents to complete verification activities from a single device. A one-tap biometric lock/unlock button further strengthens account safety by preventing unauthorised fingerprint or iris authentication.

The app supports 14 Indian languages and includes simplified tools for updating addresses and mobile numbers. Users can also view their complete Aadhaar usage history. By swiping up on the home screen and selecting “Auth History,” they can see a list of when and where their Aadhaar was used, along with the date, time and type of authentication.

Downloading and setting up the new Aadhaar app is straightforward. Android users can access it on the Play Store, while iPhone users will find it on the App Store. After installation, logging in requires the Aadhaar number and OTP verification. Face authentication may be requested during setup, after which users must create a six-digit password to secure the profile.

Only one Aadhaar profile can remain active per device at a time. If a user attempts to register on a new device, the app automatically deactivates the previous one — a measure designed to protect sensitive data.

With features like QR-based sharing, multi-profile storage, biometric locking and offline verification, the new Aadhaar app aims to offer smoother ID checks and stronger privacy protection for millions of users across the country.
