New Coaching Depot for ‘Vande Bharat Express’ Approved in Solapur

The Railway Board has given the green light for the development of a coaching depot dedicated to the ‘Vande Bharat Express’ in Solapur. The project, estimated at Rs. 50 crores, marks a significant step forward for railway infrastructure. This depot, to be executed by the Central Railway’s Construction Department, will feature a pioneering covered pipeline, a first of its kind.

This will be the third depot of Central Railway to be built in Solapur.” Currently, there are existing depots in the Mumbai division (Wadi Bandar) and ongoing construction in the Ghorpadi area of Pune.

The Solapur depot will boast a new outline spanning 600 meters and a covered shed ensuring coach safety. Maintenance and repair for each rake will require a minimum of 6 hours, with a separate building being erected.

According to railway analyst Piyush Sangapurkar, “Having a coaching depot at Solapur is a very good thing. Due to this, more ‘Vande Bharat Express’ can be started from Solapur in future.”

This move is part of a nationwide effort as 51 ‘Vande Bharat Express’ is currently operational, with plans for expansion underway. These depots play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing the unique compartments of the ‘Vande Bharat Express’, ensuring safe and efficient journeys. Similar depots are also under construction near Ghorpadi in Pune and Wadi Bandar in Central Railway, indicating a growing commitment to modernizing railway infrastructure.
