The prepaid pass aims to simplify payments, cut congestion, and make highway travel smoother for frequent private vehicle users.

In a major move to ease highway travel, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will roll out the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025, coinciding with Independence Day. The initiative, announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, targets private vehicle owners who frequently use national highways and expressways.

Under the new scheme, owners of cars, jeeps, and vans can pay a one-time fee of ₹3,000 for up to 200 toll crossings or one year of validity from the date of activation—whichever comes first. The pass, linked to an active FASTag, eliminates the need for repeated recharges, speeds up toll payments, and reduces congestion at toll plazas.

Unlike regular FASTag top-ups, the Annual Pass offers seamless, prepaid, and contactless transactions, enhancing both convenience and safety. It will work exclusively on toll plazas managed by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) but will not be valid on local toll roads or state highways outside the FASTag network.

The pass integrates with the vehicle’s existing FASTag, provided all eligibility criteria are met. According to officials, users will be able to purchase and manage the pass digitally through official platforms.

Rules for the FASTag Annual Pass
The pass is restricted to non-commercial, private vehicles, is non-transferable, and is valid only for the registered vehicle. It will not auto-renew—owners must reapply after expiry. The limit remains at 200 trips or one year, whichever comes first.

Once activated on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass is expected to not only save time and money for frequent travellers but also improve traffic flow across India’s vast network of national highways.
