NIBM Road : Pune Police arrests shopkeeper from Kondhwa for selling banned foreign made cigarettes

Kondhwa: A shopkeeper was arrested by Pune police for selling a narcotic drug and banned foreign cigarettes in the Kondhwa area. The arrest was made by Senior Police Inspector Vinayak Gaikwad and the Anti-Narcotics Squad-1 of the Crime Branch, Pune, based on reliable information received from a correspondent.

The accused, identified as Laxman Sirvi, aged 34 years, was allegedly keeping Catha Idulis Khat (Catha edulis fertilizer), a narcotic drug, in his shop named Pravin Super Market, located at Manish Park Phase 2, Kausar Baug Road, Kondhwa Khurd, Pune. In addition, he was also selling foreign cigarettes that had been banned by the government to his acquaintances.

During the raid conducted by the police, a total of 1 kg 423 g of Catha Edulis Khat, worth ₹1,13,840 and 886 cigarette packets worth ₹4,32,800 were seized from the accused’s shop and a mobile phone worth ₹10,000, total items seized are worth ₹5,56,640.

A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Cotpa Act, including Section 8 (c), 21 (a), and 22 (a), as well as Section 07(2) and 20 (2). The investigation is currently being conducted by Sub-Inspector of Police Swapnil Patil of Kondhwa Police Station.
