Nigdi to Chakan Metro DPR to be Ready Next Month, Boosting Connectivity in Pune
PUNE: In a major development for commuters, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Nigdi to Chakan metro corridor is set to be completed by next month. Once finalized, the DPR will be submitted to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for approval before being forwarded to the state and central governments for final sanction.
The new metro route, spanning 42 km, will enhance connectivity between Nigdi and Chakan MIDC, a key industrial hub. The corridor will pass through important locations such as Nigdi, Mukai Chowk, Wakad, Nashik Phata, Chakan, Ravet, Link Road, Bhosari, and Moshi. This expansion aims to improve public transport infrastructure and reduce congestion on Pune’s roads.
Currently, the metro route from Dapodi to PCMC is operational, while the PCMC to Nigdi section is still under construction. The addition of the Nigdi-Chakan corridor will further strengthen Pune’s metro network, making travel more seamless for daily commuters and industrial workers.
Pune Metro Celebrates Three Years of Operations
Earlier this month, Pune Metro marked its third anniversary, reflecting significant growth in urban mobility since its launch on March 6, 2022. Over the years, Pune Metro has expanded its network, providing efficient, fast, and eco-friendly transportation options to the city’s residents.
From March 2022 to July 2023, the monthly average ridership was recorded at 126,339 passengers. By March 2025, the total ridership had surged to an impressive 59,876,743 passengers, generating a revenue of ₹93,00,04,268. The metro’s daily average ridership now stands at approximately 160,000, underscoring its growing popularity among commuters.
Currently, Pune Metro operates on the PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi routes, with several expansion projects in progress to further enhance urban mobility.
