The city of Pune observed ‘No honking day’ on Monday in which several organisations took part and spread awareness about the noise pollution caused due to honking.

A rally was organised at the Alka Chowk jointly by Life Saving Foundation, Pune traffic police and Navchaitanya Hasyayog Pariwar.

School students also held posters driving home the message of unnecessary honking. Senior citizens also raised slogans during the rally.

Sharing details about the rally, Devendra Pathak, Chairman, Life Saving Association said, “We have been observing a no honking day in Pune since 2019. No honking will not only reduce pollution but also gives the person peace of mind while driving on the roads. Our city has more vehicles than the population which increases noise pollution. According to our survey, horns are blown one crore times a day of which 90 lakh honking is unnecessary. In order to reduce pollution, we urge individuals to avoid unnecessary honking.”
